Description
Alumix BLH-F 8mm reflective thermal and acoustic floor insulation
Foam-backed multilayer reflective insulation for floors, slabs and flat roofs. 26 dB impact noise reduction, 88% radiant heat reflection, complete floor system R 1.35.
Alumix BLH-F 8mm is a multilayer reflective thermal and acoustic insulation for floors, concrete slabs and flat roofs. An HD air-bubble layer, a central pure aluminium sheet and an HD black polyethylene foam backing combine to cut heat loss and impact noise in only 8 mm. It is a vapour and air barrier in one layer, compression-resistant under screed, and covers 36 m² per roll.
What is Alumix BLH-F 8mm?
Alumix BLH-F (product code AL-BLH-F) is a foam-backed, triple-layer reflective insulation. Its construction is HD air-bubble layer + pure low-emissivity aluminium foil + HD black polyethylene foam. The outer face is HD black polyethylene foam on one side with reflective foil on the reverse.
It is designed to sit between two compression layers under a screed or final floor finish, reducing both heat transfer and impact noise between floors.
Key benefits
- 26 dB impact noise reduction. Airborne noise level Lw in situ 69.4 dB(A).
- Reflects 88% of radiant heat. Low emissivity aluminium core of 0.12.
- High insulation in only 8 mm. Complete floor system R 1.35 m²K/W.
- Vapour and air barrier in one layer. To EN 12086.
- Compression-resistant. 11.3 kPa at 10% compression.
- Triple-layer reflective construction. Bubble, foil and foam.
- Non-fibrous. No dust or loose fibres.
- Light at 280 gsm. Easy to cut and install.

Acoustic values are for a typical floor with concrete slab and Alumix BLH-F assembly (insulation rating 3).
R-value: complete floor system
BLH-F is specified as a complete floor system. Generic reflective-cavity figures do not apply.
| Configuration | R-value (m²K/W) |
|---|---|
| Complete floor system, as installed | R 1.35 |
| Product Rt total, manufacturer stated | R 1.32 |
| Core R, tested (product alone, no cavity) | R 0.21 |
Core R tested to ISO 8301 / ASTM C 518 (heat-flow-meter). System R applies to the floor assembly described below. A minimum 8 mm foam is recommended where acoustic dampening is the priority.
Applications
- Floors
- Concrete slabs
- Flat roofs
- Screed systems
- Residential buildings
- Commercial buildings
- New build and renovation projects
How to install BLH-F on floors and slabs
- Measure the floor area and prepare the roll quantity needed to meet the m².
- Clean the slab and lay the first compression layer over it.
- Unroll BLH-F over the full area, leaving no gaps between sheets.
- Seal every joint and overlap with polypropylene adhesive tape.
- Add the second compression layer, then pour the screed or lay the final finish.
Assembly order (top to bottom): screed / final finish, compression layer, Alumix BLH-F, compression layer, slab.
Testing and certification
Alumix BLH-F is tested to EN 13501-1:2002, EN 12086, ASTM C 1371, ISO 10140 / EN 717-2, EN 826:1996, DIT 478R/13 and ISO 8301 / ASTM C 518. Test reports and certificates are available on request.
Frequently asked questions
What is Alumix BLH-F used for?
It is a thermal and acoustic insulation for floors, concrete slabs, screed systems and flat roofs in residential and commercial buildings.
How much does BLH-F reduce impact noise?
It gives an impact noise reduction of 26 dB (ΔLw), with an airborne noise level of 69.4 dB(A) in situ for a typical floor assembly.
What is the R-value of BLH-F 8mm?
The complete floor system as installed achieves R 1.35 m²K/W. The manufacturer-stated product Rt is 1.32 m²K/W, and the tested core R is 0.21 m²K/W.
Can screed be poured over BLH-F?
Yes. It is compression-resistant at 11.3 kPa (10% compression) and is installed between two compression layers before the screed is poured.
Is BLH-F a vapour barrier?
Yes. It acts as a vapour and air barrier in one layer, to EN 12086.
What roll sizes are available?
The standard roll is 1.20 m x 30 m (36 m²), with 10 m and 20 m lengths also available.
